Bilingual colour folding road and transport map with Arabic pictorial wrapper, 1986
A vivid official road map of Saudi Arabia published by the Ministry of Communications at the height of the kingdom’s modernisation programme. In Arabic and English at 1:4,000,000, it distinguishes freeways and dual carriageways from main and feeder roads, recording routes complete, under construction or designed; railways, airports and ports place the network within a wider transport system. Bold colour separates road classes against elevation tinting from the Red Sea mountains to the Empty Quarter. The cartouche dates the sheet 1406 H/1986, while the Arabic pictorial wrapper—“Transport and Communications in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”—is dated 1407 H/1987 and shows Riyadh’s King Fahd and King Abdulaziz road interchange. Designed and printed by National Offset Printing Press, it is a state-issued record of late-twentieth-century infrastructure and national integration.
