The Q2 brings back Shanling's Q line, and it's a great audiophile player rather than a novelty. Aluminium alloy body with a glass back, 80 x 50 x 13.5mm and only 83g, so it genuinely disappears into a shirt pocket.

Two headphone outputs. 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced gives 425mW into 32 ohms, so it will happily drive sensitive IEMs and step up to full size headphones as well.

Both sockets double as line outputs, 1.9V RMS on the 3.5mm and 3.8V RMS on the 4.4mm, so it works as a source into an amp or a desktop setup.

Bluetooth 5.2 and it works both ways. Send to wireless earbuds over LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC or SBC, or use the Q2 as a receiver and let your phone feed it.

Dual band WiFi, 2.4 and 5GHz. Tidal is built in, along with DLNA, AirPlay and QPlay, so you can stream straight to it without a cable in sight.

USB-C works in both directions too. Plug it into a computer and it becomes a USB DAC or run it as a bit perfect digital transport feeding an external DAC.

2.09 inch touchscreen at 375x320, backed up by a touch sensitive click wheel and physical buttons, so you can skip tracks and change volume by feel with it still in your pocket. Ingenic X2000 processor running Shanling's own MTouch OS. Quick to boot and no Android bloat slowing it down.

Worth knowing about: four selectable digital filters, ten band EQ, low and high gain, and the Eddict Player app so you can control it from your phone.

MicroSD slot takes cards up to 2TB.

1850mAh battery. Around 13.5 hours from the 3.5mm, 12.5 hours from the 4.4mm and up to 16.5 hours as a Bluetooth transmitter on LDAC.

Note: MTouch is Shanling's own operating system, not Android, so third party apps cannot be installed. Streaming is limited to what is built in.
