VG / VG(-). 1963 Lippincott, first edition / third printing. Hardcover with dust jacket. Pynchon’s first novel - a bit rough around the edges (condition-wise), but still holding together nicely. Written and published while he was still in his early twenties, Pynchon seemed poised to follow the path blazed by fellow youngsters like Gore Vidal and Truman Capote in the 1950’s. He took an alternate path though, and chose to live a much more reclusive life - publishing works periodically (sometimes with a gap of nearly a decade between releases). In hindsight, it seems to have only elevated the air of mystery around him, so it worked out well.
