Vintage Japanese Samurai Armor Yoroi – Ryugyoku Genji Armor
This is a vintage Japanese samurai armor display set made in Japan in 1985 by Japanese armor craftsman Ryugyoku.
This armor is presented as a Genji-style armor inspired by the traditional appearance of samurai armor associated with the Kamakura period.
The greatest feature is the dramatic golden dragon maedate on the kabuto helmet.
The dragon is hand-carved from wood and holds a genuine green agate gemstone in its claw.
A gem testing certificate is included with the armor. The stone is identified on the certificate as chalcedony / agate.
The armor also features pure gold-plated decorative fittings, three-color odoshi lacing in pink, white, and deep navy, elaborate Japanese textiles, and highly detailed decorative metalwork.
This is a decorative display armor set only.
It is not wearable and must not be used for protection, cosplay, reenactment, or martial arts practice.
GOLD DRAGON WITH GREEN AGATE
The centerpiece of the kabuto is a powerful golden dragon ornament rising between the large kuwagata.
The dragon was carved from wood by a craftsman and holds a green agate gemstone.
The gemstone is accompanied by a gem testing certificate confirming it as chalcedony / agate.
The deep green stone creates a strong contrast against the brilliant gold dragon and gives the kabuto a distinctive and memorable appearance.
PURE GOLD-PLATED DETAILS
The decorative gold-colored fittings are finished with pure gold plating.
The brilliant gold contrasts beautifully with the dark armor sections, white cords, deep navy textiles, and multicolored odoshi lacing.
GENJI ARMOR DESIGN
The accompanying nameplate identifies this piece as Genji Armor and states that its design was created with reference to excellent examples of Genji-style armor associated with the Kamakura period.
This armor itself was made in Japan in 1985.
It is not an original medieval battle armor set. It is a vintage Japanese decorative work inspired by historical samurai armor traditions.
THREE-COLOR ODOSHI
The armor features odoshi lacing in pink, white, and deep navy.
Odoshi refers to the traditional cords used to connect the kozane plates and other armor sections.
The three-color combination gives the armor depth and refinement while balancing the rich gold decoration.
JAPANESE DECORATIVE ART
The armor incorporates elaborate patterned textiles, floral motifs, gold decorative fittings, and detailed metalwork throughout.
The combination of the gold dragon, green agate, rich fabrics, and layered armor construction gives this piece both a strong samurai presence and the character of Japanese decorative craftsmanship.
