For sale is a rare, one-of-a-kind, handmade Vincent Bach NEW YORK mouthpiece turned during the year 1918-1921. This was made for the well-renown American jazz trombonist, Jack Clarence (aka J.C.) Higginbotham.
J.C. was known for playing with King Oliver, Jelly-Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, and several others throughout his career. By the time this mouthpiece was turned by Vincent Bach in the back room of the Selmer Music Shop in downtown NYC, J.C. would have been 15 years old—which was also around the time when his sister bought him his first trombone (according to historical records).
The plating finish on this mouthpiece is silver-plate, and it is original factory plating. This mouthpiece has not been altered or restored, it is kept all original. All the dents and dings came from J.C. when he was using his mouthpiece and touring around NYC playing gigs (a lot of his playing gigs were based in NYC).
