Octavo. [4], 300, [2] pp. First edition. In publisher's cloth with dust jacket. Very faint soiling to the black cloth binding; spine ends softened, but no wear to speak of; early prize inscription on the front free endpaper as well as a bookseller's ticket, otherwise, contents are clean; dust jacket shows chipping at the extremities with some notable loss that nevertheless doesn't affect the design or text; price intact on the front flap.

A reasonably good copy of Russ's second novel and third published work. After these three early works Russ would change his name to Patrick O'Brian by which he is now known as the prolific author and nautical historical fiction and a translator of some note.
