Temple of the Dog was a legendary American grunge supergroup formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The project was conceived by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a heartfelt tribute to his close friend and roommate, Andrew Wood, the charismatic lead singer of Mother Love Bone who tragically died of a heroin overdose just days before the release of his band's debut album.

The lineup served as a bridge between two of grunge's most iconic acts: Chris Cornell (vocals) and Matt Cameron (drums) from Soundgarden joined forces with Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), Mike McCready (lead guitar), and a then-unknown Eddie Vedder (backing and co-lead vocals), who were concurrently forming Pearl Jam.

Interesting Facts:

• The album initially gained modest traction upon its April 1991 release. However, in the summer of 1992, A&M Records re-promoted the album to capitalize on the massive breakout success of Pearl Jam's Ten and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger.

• The signature track "Hunger Strike" features a vocal duet between Cornell and Eddie Vedder. It happened organically when Vedder was at the studio waiting for the rest of the band and stepped up to the microphone to fill in the low notes Cornell was struggling to transition into. It marks the first-ever featured studio vocal recording of Eddie Vedder's career.
