The Wild Swans' gosling transformation came in 1988, carrying the weight of a near-mythic gestation, the band having emerged in early-80s Liverpool beside Echo & The Bunnymen and Teardrop Explodes, issuing the cult 'Revolutionary Spirit' before splintering. By the time this debut manifested - reshaped about vocalist Paul Simpson and guitarist Jeremy Kelly - the post-punk austerity of their origins had given way to windswept, post-shoegaze soundwalls, often compared to U2's panoramic mid-80s sweep.
