Offered is an original large-format French photograph dating to April 1929, showing a distinguished French Army officer posing with family members and a German Shepherd on a riverside dock or pontoon bridge. The reverse is pencil-inscribed "Sur le Rhin – Avril 1929" ("On the Rhine – April 1929"), placing the image along the Rhine River during the post-World War I occupation era.

The officer is dressed in a French military uniform with kepi, while the accompanying family members wear fashionable late-1920s clothing. The large German Shepherd resting in the foreground makes this an especially attractive and unusual composition.
