1958-60 L.A. Dodgers Portrait (8" x 10") - Johnny Podres by Nicholas Volpe - Very good plus condition and VERY SCARCE. Since moving to Los Angeles for the beginning of the 1958 season, this is by far one of the rarest team issued memorabilia items ever produced by the Dodgers. The portraits measure 8" x 10" and were sold at the souvenir stands at the Coliseum from 1958-1960. The complete set consists of 16 fabulous black & white portraits by famed sports artist Nicholas Volpe. 15 of the 16 portraits have blank backs; the only exception is Roy Campanella's portrait which has the highlights of his career and complete minor and major league stats on the back. These outstanding portraits combine two of America's greatest passions; baseball and wonderful art. Nicholas Volpe also produced color L.A. Dodger portrait sets given away by Union 76 dealers in Southern California in 1962, 1964, 1969 and 1982. Volpe also produced similar sets for many other sports teams, and in 1962, he did an outstanding portrait set of Academy Award Winners (best actor and actress) from 1928-1961. Johnny Podres pitched for the Dodgers from 1953 through 1966 but will be forever be remembered for his 2-0 shutout of the Yankees in the 7th game of the 1955 World Series which brought the Dodgers their one and only championship in Brooklyn. There are some brown tape stains on the back, two of which have bled through to the front; one on the right border and one on the bottom (see the scan), but this VERY SCARCE portrait is still in very nice condition and hard to find in any condition. No collection of Johnny Podres or vintage Dodgers memorabilia is complete without this VERY RARE portrait. Check out the scan for the great artwork by Nicholas Volpe and so you can judge the condition for yourself (unlike many other sellers, who post generic scans, the item in my scan is the one you will get). You won't be disappointed. All previous buyers of my SCARCE regional baseball items have been completely satisfied. I have many others available; please inquire. The portrait will be sent via Ground Advantage (formerly 1st Class mail). I will combine shipping to reduce charges for multiple items.
