VERY RARE pictorial map of Zululand published c1949 by Central Press (Pty.) Ltd, Durban for Natal Parks Game and Fish Preservation Board. This tourist and collector's map was created to promote wildlife conservation and tourism in the Zululand region of South Africa, primarily highlighting key protected areas managed by the board before it later evolved into what is now known as Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Rather than serving as a purely topographical or political map, it utilizes hand-drawn illustrations, cartoonish icons, and vignettes depicting various African wildlife species, terrain, and indigenous culture. It features prominently localized depictions of historic game reserves, including Hluhluwe Game Reserve and Umfolozi Game Reserve (famous for saving the southern white rhino from extinction), Mkuzi Game Reserve and St. Lucia Estuary and its surrounding bird sanctuaries. Includes pictorial representations of outdoor activities supported by the board during that era, such as angling, birdwatching, and early safari game-viewing drives. 
The Natal Parks, Game and Fish Preservation Board was established under Ordinance 35 of 1947. During the 1950s and 1960s, the board commissioned highly detailed, artistic pictorial maps through local publishers like the Central Press to drum up public interest and guide early eco-tourists through the rugged roads of northern Natal and Zululand.
