This lens was taken from the FED Micron half-frame film camera and adapted to M39 mount with a focusing helicoid.
The FED Micron with the Helios-89 lens was a Soviet clone of the Japanese Konica Eye with Hexanon lens.
In practice, the Helios-89 offers similarly impressive performance..
Flange focal distance: 28.8 mm
Usable with APS-C sensors and smaller.
On full-frame cameras, slight corner vignetting may be visible.
This is a rangefinder-coupled lens,
but the distance scale does not correspond correctly to rangefinder values.
Therefore, on Leica full-frame digital cameras, focusing is possible only via the screen.
The rangefinder is not usable with this lens.
Compatible with mirrorless cameras when used with the proper adapter:
Sony E (Alpha / NEX / 7R),
Micro 4/3 (Olympus PEN, Panasonic),
Samsung NX,
Canon EOS M, Canon EOS R,
Nikon 1, Nikon Z,
Fujifilm X,
Pentax Q,
Leica M.
Precisely calibrated for true infinity focus.
Unlike many adapted lenses, it does not focus past infinity —
the helicoid stops exactly where infinity is sharp..
Minimum focusing distance is 33cm.
This lens has no adjustable aperture and remains fixed at f/1.9.
However, the Helios-89 is sharp wide open and produces beautiful bokeh.
