This whimsical folk art scene shows 19th century figures gathered at a cliff above the shore, watching kites and hot air balloons drift over the water while a mermaid looks on and clipper ships sail in the distance. The original painting of this composition is held in the collection of the Cahoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit, Massachusetts.
