a carved wooden statue, depicting a female twin figure, known as:

Ere Ibeji 

this one is made by the Ede People, from southern west Africa region, Benin and Togo

with scarification marks on fore head, eye lids, cheeks, chin and belly,

this female figure has a high braided, crown-like coiffure, seperated from the forehead with bands, small ears and mouth, elbows slightly accentuated, 

all typical for Ede, described in: 

Doppel-Leben, Ibeji, Zwillingsfiguren der Yoruba, catalogue of an exhibition in Hause missio Aachen, 1993, texts by Hanni Jantzen and Ludwig Bertsch SJ, page 104,

arms free carved, hands on the hips, short legs, flat feet, standing on a plinth,

this Ede girl is carved with a small loincloth, a traditional West African modesty apron or waist ornament, these garments in real life, were crafted from materials like glass beads, plant fibers, cowry shells and metal, and they signal the wearer's age, social standing, or life stage, they were worn by girls and women before clothing restrictions were imposed by the influence of Islam and the circa 1961 Cameroon government ban.

condition: firm, authentic patina, no wood cracks, but a part of the back of the plinth is gone.
