A compact seed option for gardeners who enjoy starting aquatic plants from the earliest stage.
Choose either 20 or 100 seeds from the available variation.
Begin in clean, warm water after carefully preparing the hard shell.
Suitable warmth and good light support early seedling development.
Move established seedlings into a suitable container or water garden.
Lotus seeds have a hard outer shell. Careful preparation is the key first step before soaking.
Lightly file or nick the hard shell at the indented end until the lighter inner layer is just visible. Do not remove the whole shell and do not cut into the embryo.
Place the prepared seeds in a clean container of water at approximately 20–30°C. Keep the container in a warm indoor position.
Replace the water once or twice each day to keep it fresh. Provide good light after shoots begin to appear and do not let seedlings dry out.
Under suitable conditions, initial sprouting may appear in around a week. Continue growing until roots and young leaves are established.
Move each established seedling carefully into its own suitable aquatic container with prepared soil and still water. Keep young leaves above the water surface.
