A corkscrew is a device in the form of a screw-shaped metal rod with a ring or handle at the end for pulling out bottle corks (uncorking bottles). Another, colloquial, name is a cork pick.

It is believed that the corkscrew appeared in England. In one document dated 1861, the corkscrew is described as "a steel screw used for pulling corks out of bottles."
