These designs highlight the artistic craftsmanship of personalizing books before mass production took over. Historical Context & Designer/Creator: Designed by Mr. R. J. Williams in England. Period: Dated around 1913–1914, representing the late Edwardian era. Before the internet and smart phones, children relied on actual books to be entertained and to learn about the world around them. Many great book series were published at the turn of the century containing historical facts, stories, poems, games, activities, classic fairy tales by Andersen, Grimm and others, and much more for children.
All had interesting and charming illustrations.
