FLUORITE CRYSTAL - 2.2 cm

HILTON MINE, ENGLAND

The Hilton Mine was first worked in 1824 and produced a bounty of rich ore and world class yellow fluorite specimens from England. Over the many years the specimens were harvested and kept in collections. The mine property is now on an artillery range of the armed forces and entry is very limited. Underground conditions are so hazardous that entry has been prohibited. The specimens we offer come from collecting done around 1965.

This is a very good example of the beautiful fluorite from the renowned Hilton Mine. The miniature specimen features an undamaged plate of sharp crystals with pale yellow color on matrix. The largest crystal measures 8 mm on edge. Black sphalerite comprises the greater portion of the matrix underneath.

The fluorite crystals have a moderately bright glow when placed under a UV LW lamp; typical fluorescence for the specimens of this mine.

A previous label from England will accompany the specimen to its new owner. The information is largely erroneous.
