• One of a Kind 1920s Assiut (Assuit) 10K Gold-washed Metal Mesh Shawl from Assyut, Egypt
• Hand Embellished - in excellent, clean, strong condition.
• Measures 24" x 90" Weighs 8.8 ounces on a postal scale.
• Ecru linen fishnet - sturdy, no breaks, no stains.
• This Egyptian Folk Metal Art became highly fashionable in the Roaring Twenties after archaeologist Howard Carter untombed King Tut in Egypt
• Gold Washed (acid test is positive for 10K gold-wash, otherwise known as vermeil) 
• Various metal pieces were gently rubbed onto a jeweler's testing stone. All metallic traces remained on the stone after 10K acid was applied to the rubbing. 
• No tarnish on the tiny folded metal mesh. These ecru ivory scarves can be gently washed and dyed any color.
• Portions of the side edges of this shawl are partly unfurled but nothing is broken or ripped anywhere. A few loose hemming threads extend from the edges. These threads are external to the shawl - hemming thread that finishes the side edges. (please see photos.).

• I have owned and sold many of these shimmering textiles from Egypt over 50 years and never thought to test a single one of them having assumed they were all silver-plated nickel or alpacca.
