A Collection of Furniture Sketches Filled with Philip Weisbecker’s Artistry
Titled “My Furniture,” this book emerged from Weisbecker’s reflections on the furniture crafted by America’s earliest settlers and that of Black slaves of the same era. Impressed by the furniture—crafted using extremely primitive methods with ingenuity and the tools and materials at hand, despite the creators’ poverty—Weisbecker built his own pieces based on the sketches in this book and actually uses them in his own studio. Some of these pieces were exhibited at ATELIER MUJI in Ginza in 2022.
This book is part of a series that reproduces the collection of works drawn in the author’s “deadstock” notebooks—his life’s work—and faithfully recreates the original notebooks’ silver accents, discoloration, rounded corners, grooves on the cover, and hand-glued title pages.
