The long-awaited collection of architectural drawings by Hiroshi Naito has finally been published.

~From his early masterpiece, “The Museum of the Sea” (1992), to his recent work, “Hyuga City Hall” (2019)~
This volume features a total of 18 works, comprising only those drawings that the architect considered most significant for each project.

This book compiles the design drawings for 18 projects selected from the body of work by architect Hiroshi Naito, spanning from the establishment of his architectural firm in 1981 to the present. When you look at these design drawings, you can’t help but be moved by the realization that such remarkable buildings were created from these very plans.

For large-scale projects, such as public buildings, it is said that the number of design drawings can exceed 1,000. Among these, what Naito values most are the “cross-sectional and elevation drawings that comprehensively cover all aspects of technology, systems, structure, facilities, and design.” It is fair to say that these drawings determine the quality of the architecture and vividly convey “what Hiroshi Naito has infused into his buildings.”

Centered on these drawings, this book consists solely of the drawings deemed most critical to each project, including essential details and various detailed drawings. In addition to commentary by Naito himself, the book features beautiful, newly created drawings.

The book is printed in the large “B4” format. When opened, the drawings unfold with impressive grandeur (the width of the gatefold pages exceeds 1 meter!). It is bound using a thread-sewn open-back binding method, allowing the pages to lay flat at 180 degrees for easy viewing.
