About This Item:
Vintage Japanese Cotton Fabric Bolt (Tanmono) for Tanzen / Dotera - "Shikishima"
A roll of vintage Japanese cloth intended for making a tanzen (dotera), the traditional padded Japanese winter robe. Brand: "Shikishima" high-grade fashionable tanzen, with the maker's "New SR" finish. Material: 100% cotton, carried with the original certification label of the Shizuoka Cotton & Rayon Textile Promotion Association.
The fabric is woven in a warm camel / mustard ground with a fine plaid/check of red-purple, pale blue-white, and gold metallic (lame) lines. The special SR finish gives the cotton a soft, woolly, brushed-feeling hand for a comfortable, warm drape.
Maker's note (translated): "This tanzen cloth is finished with the SR technique we created, which resolves the dissatisfaction found in ready-made tanzen fabrics and promises a wonderful woolly touch and excellent wearing comfort."
Great for making a tanzen / dotera or haori, or for kimono remake, quilting, sewing, bag-making, and other Japanese-textile craft projects.
Please note: this bolt is offered SEALED and UNOPENED, still bound with its original thread ties and with the original labels in place - genuine unused deadstock. To preserve this condition it has NOT been unrolled, so the exact length has not been measured. Based on the width and total weight, the length is very roughly estimated at about 5-7 m, but this is only an estimate and is NOT guaranteed. It is sold as one complete sealed bolt, as pictured.
Dimensions: width approx. 35 cm (13.8 in). Length: not measured (sold sealed; see note above). Total weight: 366 g. 100% cotton. Made in Japan.
