Description: Striking and highly detailed fine unusual 1877 oversize original colored lithographic map of the World on Mercator's Projection, by Otto Neussel published by Astort Hermanos, at Madrid. The map shows the geographical distribution of world populations through differentiated color schemes, based on the studies of leading geographers of the second half of the nineteenth century (such as August Petermann).
 
Illustrative Appearance: The map is framed by a series of finely engraved portraits accompanying the descriptive text. These portraits depict the different "human types" according to the anthropological and ethnographic classifications of the time (such as Caucasian, Mongolian, American, and Malay typologies).
