Q1: How to tell if I need just a new boot or a complete CV axle assembly?

A: Depends on the damage level:

Boot only – if tear is minor (no significant grease loss) and no clicking noise during driving, a boot kit with fresh grease may work. Note: labor-intensive and requires special tools.

Full assembly – if you hear clicking/popping on turns or acceleration, or if dirt/water has entered due to prolonged boot tear, the CV joint is already worn. A new boot won't reverse wear – replace the entire assembly to fix it once and avoid repeat labor.

Q2: Any critical installation cautions?

A: Yes – must-follow points:

Replace axle nut – it's a one-time-use torque-to-yield nut. Always use a NEW one and torque to spec (typically 180–220 N·m); otherwise, risk of loosening.

Inspect transmission seal – check the output shaft seal for leaks/aging. Replace if questionable – a leaking seal will damage your new axle prematurely.

No hammering – use proper pullers/presses. Striking the housing with a hammer can damage internal bearings.
