1937-D Buffalo Nickel, Three-legged FS-020.2 variety, authenticated / graded / encapsulated by PCGS as Extra Fine, XF-45. This is one of the classic U.S. interesting error coins that usually makes the "100 greatest U.S. coins" lists. This specimen is undamaged and now also toned orange, blues, and light bronze colours after almost 90 years.
The authentication markers are all here: missing left front leg, mysterious "stream" from the body (actually die marks from that famous reverse die that the Denver Mint worker overpolished, removing the leg) and the bulbous growths on the right rear leg (more die damage). It's not surprising after knowing all the authentication markers that this die was retired after a certain run - and it creates a bit of a rarity. This specimen was graded long ago, and is in an older (or, "middle-aged") PCGS holder.
