About This Item:

Authentic Japanese KICHO silk curtain textile, made by Kuroda Shozoku-ten, known as "Heishichi," located in front of the Sakaimachi Gate of the Kyoto Imperial Palace.

Kuroda Shozoku-ten is a long-established Kyoto atelier of court costumes (shozoku) and Shinto furnishings, and a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency of Japan.

The house also supplies costumes for Kyoto's famous festivals, including the Saio-dai procession of the Aoi Matsuri and the Jidai Matsuri.

A kicho is a classical Heian-style standing curtain used as a room partition in aristocratic and court interiors. This piece is the SILK CURTAIN PANEL portion, woven in refined "yusoku" (classical court) style with a multi-color "distant mountains" (yama-zukushi) motif, purple diamond-patterned cords, and a light-blue saya-gata (interlocking) border.

Condition:

Vintage, previously stored. There are folding creases and there may be minor age-toning or small spots consistent with age. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. Sold as-is.

Wonderful for Hina doll display settings, tokonoma alcove decoration, traditional Japanese interiors, or as a collectible example of yusoku court textile art from a prestigious Kyoto maker.
