Vinaigrette was carried by Ladies and used to disguise unpleasant smells, the hinged lid opens to reveal a silver gilt pierced hinged interior the hinge to this is broken ,the vinaigrette had a ring attached to hang on a chain the ring is missing ,repair could easily be done by a silversmith
