A rare antique Japanese indigo-dyed cotton textile from the Kaei era (circa 1848-1854, roughly 170 years old), inscribed in sumi ink with an old dedication reading "newly made."
Hand-woven cotton panels are joined and dip-dyed with natural indigo (aizome) in a deep, layered blue.
Each corner is decorated with fan-shaped sashiko hand-stitching, accented by a family crest (kamon) and shop mark, with a pale indigo diamond panel at the center.
Likely used historically as a furoshiki or futon cover.
This is a true one-of-a-kind piece.
The frayed edges, visible mending and applied patches give it authentic boro character, highly prized by textile and folk-art collectors.
