Hardness Testing Tool Gem Hardness Tester Jewelry Tools Hardness Stone

Description:

Mohs/Mohs hardness tester is suitable for testing the relative hardness of floor materials such as gemstones, cured epoxy concrete, ceramics, tiles, floor tiles, marble, mineral geological exploration, optical glass, mobile phone glass screens, tempered screens, and commonly used glass. The Mohs hardness standard is a destructive testing method that determines the hardness of the tested sample by scratching it. It is a relative hardness test result, not an absolute value. Please be aware!
The method of testing hardness using the Mohs hardness standard has long been applied to the hardness testing of gemstones. After multiple industry practices, it has gradually extended from gemstone hardness testing to hardness testing in other industries, such as porcelain blocks, floor tiles, concrete, tempered screens, etc.

Note: Regarding the authority of Mohs hardness pen testing, please follow the usual practices in your industry. We do not make any promises of authority or absolute accuracy. Please be aware!

Usage tips and precautions:

The Mohs/Mohs hardness pen is used to embed and stick ten minerals from a Mohs/Mohs hardness tester, including 1 talc, 2 gypsum, 3 calcite, 4 fluorite, 5 apatite, 6 orthoclase, 7 quartz, 8 yellow jade, 9 corundum, and 10 diamond (or artificial diamond sand), onto ten metal rods.

Test steps:

1. First, indirectly estimate the hardness of the sample visually
2. Find an inconspicuous place and use a hardness pen that is 1 to 2 levels lower than the visual hardness to scratch the sample. If it cannot be scratched, it indicates that the hardness of the sample is higher than that of the hardness pen. Then use a hardness pen that is one level higher to scratch. If there are slight marks, it indicates that the hardness of the sample is equivalent to that of the hardness pen. You can use a hardness pen that is one level higher to scratch. If a scratch is left, it indicates that the hardness of the sample is lower than that of the hardness pen. At this time, the hardness or range of the measured sample can be determined;
3. Pay attention to the moderate engraving force, neither too light nor too heavy.
4. If there is powder during the engraving test, it is necessary to determine whether it is the powder of the sample or the loss of the testing pen, and not to make a wrong judgment.
