You are bidding on The Thames from Source to Sea, published by Cassell & Company Limited in 1885. Page edges are gilded. The cover has some wear and a bit of grime, but the pages are generally excellent, lightly tanned by age. A few pages have some kind of smudge or smear, but not bad. This book appears to have been written by various contributing authors, each taking a chapter. There are numerous illustrations. Originally something of a coffee-table travelogue, this book describes the course of the River Thames in the England of 1885 - almost 150 years ago - so it is now of significant historical interest. Unfortunately, a good portion of the front endpaper page has been torn out, but it is blank anyway (see pics). My guess is that it once had an inscription, or price, or something, which a previous owner wanted removed. The back endpaper page also has a small tear. This is quite a large book, measuring about 13" by 10", and viii + 368 pages, including Index & Table of Distances.
