You are bidding on a winter coat/jacket that was issued on the U.S.S. Constellation some time between 1961 and 1975. Unfortunately, the usual military-issue tags are missing, though I believe it is size 'Medium' from the way it fits me. However, there is faded stenciling on the back that reads "CVA 64", which designates the U.S.S. Constellation, one of our Cold War fleet carriers. There was additional stenciling above, but it is no longer legible. Now, the Constellation was commissioned from 1961-2003, but on June 30, 1975, all of the CVAs (attack carriers) were re-designated as CVs. Therefore, this jacket must have been issued between 1961 and 1975.

This is a nice coat, and looks like it would be very warm, but it was obviously used and does have some issues (see pics). The worst is that the pin on the bottom of the zipper run is broken. It is still attached, but the zipper is not functional. However, clasping buttons are present and can be used instead. There is also an old cigarette burn near the lower left pocket, and some frayed adjustment straps and odd small stains scattered about. Cuffs and buttonholes are also a bit frayed; the cuffs are somewhat grimy. The interior of the coat is very nice and surprisingly new-looking. This coat has been in storage for decades, and so may be a tad musty. Other than as described above, there are no rips, tears, holes or insect damage. No tobacco or mothball stench.

So this coat is probably still functional, but it may be more interesting as a historical artifact than for its cold-weather utility.
