"History of the Grateful Dead, vol. 1" was compiled by the band's legendary sound engineer, Owsley "Bear" Stanley, as a tribute to founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan shortly after his death.

The album showcases recordings from the Fillmore East in February 1970, capturing the band's transition from psychedelic rock to more acoustic and blues-oriented sounds.

Jewel case has some scuffs and discoloration, and the cover/liner also has some yellowing due to age. The CD itself is in very good used condition.
