Alexander Girard Hand Drawn Furniture Design Sketches - Original Authenticated
This is a unique chance, a chance to own hand drawn sketch furniture designs by the man himself, Alexander Girard. These are not prints, re-prints or photographs, but signed REAL drawings by Alexander Girard.
Whilst Girard became famous for textile designs (With Herman Miller), film and folkore, GIrard was also an accomplished designer and these early career sketches are an insight into his fantastic works. Considering the designs emanate from 1941, they were very much in keeping with the times but with a clearly modern and progressive viewpoint (especially the coffee table which has shades of Isamu Noguchi about it!).
The hand drawn sketches have been framed within neutral white frames to showcase the sketches and all 3 are signed and with annotations to explain the designs.
The works were authenticated by Aleishall Girard Maxon of the Girard Studio and her email will be provided to the buyer. Her exact thoughts on the designs were as follows:
--
These are renderings for furniture that he would have designed and produced during his time living in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. They were most likely done for a private residence he worked on as an interior designer though I am not sure of which one. The signature is AH Girard (Alexander Hayden Girard), he drops the H as he goes on through his career. I don’t have any other details at this time but should I come across something I will certainly let you know.
Very Best,
Aleishall
