At our store, we are committed to transparency and selling only genuine factory-sealed Pokémon TCG products. This detailed guide helps buyers understand how to identify authentic booster packs versus resealed/tampered ones, based on established collector best practices.

Why This Matters

Resealed packs are opened by scammers who remove high value “hits,” replace them with bulk, and reseal the pack. All our packs are sourced from Pokémon collection boxes, tins booster boxes, bundles and many other original Pokémon products. We carefully inspect every pack we list and include photos to show the packs as they are before they are shipped/sold.

Visual Inspection: Key Differences

Original Factory-Sealed Packs:

• Crimp/Seal: Sharp, uniform, machine-pressed edges. Consistent across packs from the same set. May include tiny air holes. Some sets have air holes in the corners while older sets may have air holes in different areas to minimize damage due to temperature and pressure differences.
• Wrapper Fit & Feel: Loose and flexible. Cards inside shift slightly when gently handled.
• Glue/Residue: None — official packs use heat-sealing only. No visible glue.
• Back Flap/Seam: Clean heat seal. The flap may lift slightly in some factory-fresh Sword & Shield packs or older sets without indicating tampering.
• Overall Appearance: Even foil coloring, balanced air distribution (not overly puffy or vacuum-tight). No melted or flattened areas.

Resealed/Tampered Packs (Major Red Flags):

• Crimp/Seal: Puffy, uneven, flattened, or melted-looking zigzags (often from heat tools). Partially erased sections, air bubbles, or overlapping/uneven edges.
• Glue Residue: Visible white/shiny sticky spots, especially at corners, seams, or back flap. Hardened patches or peeling glue.
• Wrapper Fit: Cards feel stuck together; wrapper clings tightly or feels unnaturally rigid/vacuum-sealed.
• Back Flap/Seam: Overly cemented and stiff, or peeling unnaturally. Possible straight “GI Joe” tears from forced opening.
• Other Signs: Color mismatches, crimps overlapping printed text, or unnatural stiffness.

Physical “Touch” Tests

• Card Slide Test: Gently shake or press the pack — cards should slide freely inside a real pack. Stuck cards are a strong sign of tampering.
• Air & Flex Test: Authentic packs feel balanced and flexible. Resealed ones often feel vacuum-tight or excessively puffy/uneven – you may run into packs that have a slight “puff” to them due to temperature and pressure differences during shipping so this is not always a red flag, just something to pay attention to.

Important Note on Factory Variations: Sword & Shield and older packs and even older Scarlet & Violet sets/packs can have slightly imperfect factory seals or loose back flaps. A single minor imperfection does not mean tampering — look for multiple red flags together (especially glue + poor crimp + stuck cards).
