Marking the 400th anniversary of Caravaggio's death, this exhibition catalogue brings together 25 ‘sublime, capital works’ by the artist with responses from leading art historians. As they follow his development through masterpieces including Rest on the Flight into Egypt and The Supper at Emmaus the contributors reflect on topics such as his direct observation, rejection of idealization and uncompromising realism and reflect on how his paintings continue to engage viewers.
