Adapted from Aaron McGruder's comics of the same name. The story follows brothers Huey and Riley Freeman and their paternal grandfather, Robert. The TV show, just like the comic it was adapted from, is a critique of modern-day African-American society.

The most controversial character, Uncle Ruckus, isn't related to the Freemans. The character is a black man who is racist towards other black people because he believes that he is a white man with a skin condition called re-vitiligo.

One of the most controversial episodes is called Return of the King. In this alternative history, Martin Luther King, Jr survives the assassination attempt by James Earl Ray and spends the next 32 years in a coma, and eventually wakes up on the 27/10/00. King's peaceful philosophy is no longer accepted in modern society.
