CCa is the premium selected version; E188CC = 7308 is the upgraded long-life variant (pin-compatible). The standard-quality equivalent is ECC88 = 6DJ8.
The E88CC is the special-quality version of the ECC88: a frame-grid dual triode with separate cathodes and inter-section shielding, developed in the late 1950s for demanding professional work in instrumentation, telecommunications and television, and long prized by audio builders for its low noise and channel separation. The "CC" marks it as a long-life, tight-tolerance grade, and premium examples were fitted with gold pins. This pair is Philips-branded but made in England by Mullard at Mitcham, as shown by the etched codes, and is offered new-old-stock in the original Philips boxes.
