This is a genuine used/as-removed US military aircraft escape/crash axe, marked 56D6221 on the insulated rubber handle. These were standard issue for bomber crews, aircrew, and helicopter pilots (including UH-60 Blackhawk era) from WWII through Vietnam and beyond. The design allowed crews to hack through aluminum fuselage, canopy, or wreckage during emergency egress.
