📜 Description

This authentic silver hemidrachm was struck in the Thracian Chersonesos between 386 and 338 BC, during a period when the region occupied a strategically important position controlling access between the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea. The Chersonesos, located on the Gallipoli peninsula, was renowned for its prosperous Greek cities, fertile agricultural lands, and vital maritime trade routes.

The obverse features the forepart of a lion, one of the most recognizable and enduring symbols used on the coinage of the Thracian Chersonesos. The lion represented strength, authority, and protection, while its distinctive depiction made these small silver coins readily identifiable in commerce throughout the Greek world.
