This is an Authentic and Rare piece of Military Equipment History: a Cylindrical Leather Cavalry Valise (portmanteau)

This Field - Service Bag was a Standard Component of a Cavalry Officer's kit, designed to be Securely Strapped to the rear of the Saddle to carry Personal Essentials and Campaign Gear.

Artisanship: The main flap is adorned with a striking hand-embossed horse head motif, a classic decorative element for high-quality cavalry or officer-grade equipment.

Material: Constructed thick, durable leather. It has developed a deep, authentic chocolate-brown patina that only comes with over a century of age.

Construction: The bag features a rigid cylindrical body with reinforced side panels, two vertical closing straps with original metal buckles , and upper loops for saddle attachment.

Provenance: Historically consistent with designs used by British cavalry units the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The leather shows a beautiful aged character with natural surface craquelure and minor consistent with field use.
