The bowl was designed by Marc Lalique, the son of the company’s legendary founder, René Lalique. Marc took over the reins of the company in 1945 following his father's passing and shifted Lalique's production from traditional glass to the heavy, brilliant lead crystal the brand is known for today.

The Balmoral pattern was originally introduced in the 1950s (specifically around 1953–1956) as part of Marc Lalique's post-war mid-century crystal collections
