About the GZ32

Introduced by Philips in July 1949, the GZ32 became the standard full-wave rectifier for British and European high-quality audio amplifiers throughout the 1950s, appearing in 115 documented models from 1946 through 1965. The GZ32 is particularly celebrated as the original rectifier for Quad II and Leak amplifiers, where its 5V/2A half-indirect heating provided robust rectification for demanding push-pull output stages. Mullard Radio Valve Co. at Mitcham (factory code R) produced the most sought-after GZ32 variants, distinguished by premium construction including the D-square getter visible in this example. In 1956, the higher-rated GZ34 succeeded the GZ32, though the GZ32 remained in production for another decade. The BVA (British Valve Association) certification confirms this tube met stringent British manufacturing and quality standards.
