28" large Sun RATTLE (!!!) yes, it's a rattle!!!, hand carved by Indigenous artist Jimmy Joseph, originating from Alert Bay, a little island on BC's Northwest Coast
SUN, fully carved on BOTH sides - with Raven on rays, AND BUTTERFLY on top (!!!)
Double sided carving, inlaid with countless pieces of blue and green abalone, beautiful and very powerful and rich sound. The handle is depicting a totem, carved all around, showing human above raven, then the base, also fully carved. Everything hand made, nothing machine made.
This rattle is truly unbelievably intricate - so many details, Jimmy truly goes all the way and always shows his love for this art. No other artist is working like him and as he told me, during the time he was working with his dad, his dad told him that "he needs to find his own style so that a signature isn't needed. Everybody will recognize it". And so he did!
But, he still signed it so for every collector out there, the authenticity is guaranteed as in every piece we are representing. All fully hand carved, fully hand painted, standing on a nice, also hand carved wooden base. Fabulous!
