Sealed Carbon Airbox for the 4.0 TFSI Twin-Turbo V8, up to 19hp

The C7 RS6 and RS7 have a crowded engine bay with heat coming from several directions. There's the twin-turbo V8 itself, a heat exchanger under the headlamp, and hot air pushed into the intake area by the radiator fan. Eventuri set two goals for this system: remove the restrictions in the air path to each turbo, and keep intake temperatures low. During development, they tried two open cone filters with heat shielding, and intake temperatures rose so much that the car lost power. So the final design encloses both filters in a sealed carbon fibre airbox that uses all the space freed up by removing the factory airbox.

Inside the airbox, each turbo has its own double-cone filter and its own carbon fibre Venturi stack. Each stack is matched to the filter neck and runs straight into a smoothly curved carbon tube that connects to the factory turbo pipe. The airflow narrows gradually and stays laminar, even when the turbos are drawing air at high velocity at high rpm. This reduces drag on the turbos, so they build boost more readily and throttle response is sharper.

Cold air comes from the front of the car. A carbon scoop behind the grille directs ambient air into a redesigned carbon duct with a larger internal volume than the factory duct, and the duct feeds the airbox through two openings. This helps the airbox cool down quickly after the car has been standing and heat-soaking. A laser-cut heat shield with a gold reflective layer sits between the turbos and the face of the airbox, forming a thermal barrier once the engine is hot and under load.

Performance

• 
  Dyno gain: 15-19hp and 13-17ft-lb, with a gain of about 19hp and 17ft-lb at best.

  How it was tested: back-to-back on the same day, first on the factory intake and then with the Eventuri fitted while the car stayed on the dyno. The bonnet was closed for all runs, temperatures were monitored, and several runs were made in each configuration for consistency.


• 
  V-Box road test: 60-130mph fell from 9.674 to 9.274 seconds (0.4 seconds quicker), and 100-200km/h fell from 8.420 to 8.078 seconds. Both tests used the same stretch of road on the same day, with the intake as the only change.

On the road, part-throttle and full-throttle response is crisper, and the car pulls more eagerly to the redline.

Fitment

Not suitable for: the C8 RS6 and RS7 (2020 onwards), which need the Eventuri C8 RS6 / RS7 Intake, or the C7 S6 and S7 4.0 TFSI, which need the Eventuri C7 S6 / S7 Intake.

Installation

The system replaces the factory airbox and front duct. You remove the engine cover and the factory airbox, which is held by three push mounts, then take two of the factory rubber mounts off the chassis and fit them to the base of the carbon airbox. After removing the front slam-panel cover and the factory duct, you fit a filter to each carbon tube, place both tubes in the airbox, and fit the heat shield and the lid. The factory rubber hoses then reconnect the tubes to the turbo pipes, with the notch on each tube facing upwards.

Please note: to fit the front scoop, you need to drill two 6mm holes in the panel behind the grille. The scoop is then secured with the plastic rivets supplied. The carbon duct also has to be positioned carefully so that its top edge sits above the factory plastic edge. Otherwise, it won't locate correctly. Does it fit both the RS6 and the RS7?

Yes. The C7 RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback share the 4.0 TFSI twin-turbo V8 and engine bay, and this single kit (EVE-C7RS6-CF-INT) fits both.

Will it fit the newer C8 RS6 or the C7 S6?

No. The C8 RS6 and RS7 have a completely different engine bay and need the Eventuri C8 RS6 / RS7 Intake. The C7 S6 and S7 have their own Eventuri C7 S6 / S7 Intake.

Do I need a remap?

No. The intake is a bolt-on upgrade. Eventuri's dyno and road results were measured with the intake as the only change. If your car is mapped, let your tuner know the intake is fitted.

Why use a sealed airbox instead of open cone filters?

The C7 engine bay has several heat sources close to the intake. When Eventuri tested two open filters with heat shields during development, intake temperatures rose significantly and power dropped. The sealed carbon airbox blocks that heat and is fed only with cold air from the front scoop and duct.

Is any drilling needed?

Yes, but only two 6mm holes in the panel behind the grille, to mount the front scoop. The rest of the system uses factory mounting points.

Will it change the sound of the V8?

Yes. You'll hear more induction and turbo noise from the V8 under acceleration. Eventuri has a sound clip of the RS6 with the intake on their website.

What filters does it use?

The kit uses two Eventuri Type S Generation 2 double-cone dry filters (part number EVE-151-G2-FTR), one for each turbo. They're washable and reusable. If you replace them, order two Eventuri Type S filters.

How often should the filters be cleaned?

Eventuri recommends cleaning roughly every 3,500 miles (5,600km), or more often in dusty or wet conditions. Use the Eventuri Air Filter Cleaning Kit, and avoid using high-pressure compressed air close to the filter media.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Eventuri products are covered against defects in materials and workmanship. Please keep your proof of purchase, and have the kit fitted correctly following Eventuri's installation guide.
