The Allegheny was one of the largest and most powerful steam locomotives ever built — sixty were constructed for C&O between 1941 and 1948 to drag heavy coal trains over the mountains at 7,500 horsepower. This Standard DC version arrives with a 21-pin (NEM 660) DCC socket, ready for a sound or silent decoder whenever you want to upgrade.

Can I add DCC sound later?
Yes. The locomotive includes a 21-pin (NEM 660) DCC socket. Drop in a 21-pin DCC sound decoder (an ESU LokSound 5 with a C&O 2-6-6-6 sound file is a popular choice) for full DCC and sound operation.
What minimum curve radius is recommended?
The Allegheny is a long articulated locomotive. We recommend 22-inch radius curves or larger — wider is always better for smooth running and prototype appearance.
What's the difference between HR2950 and HR2950S?
This listing (HR2950) is the Standard DC analog version. The HR2950S includes a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 DCC sound decoder.
