This is a rare, vintage, exquisitely hand-crafted Globus "Twelve Tribes of Israel" ballpoint pen, with a sterling silver barrel and hangtag.
This highly popular commemorative gift item was made in Israel around mid-century, during the "Silver Age" of Judaica. This is a product of collaboration between Globus, the prominent luxury writing instrument brand and the renowned Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem a k a "Bezalel Works". The Globus brand name and logo are stamped on the hangtag, which features a Menorah on the other side. The Bezalel name and silver purity mark are stamped on the barrel of the pen.
The beautifully detailed embossed barrel features the "Tribes of Israel" name along with the tribe names and symbols representing each tribe. The style is a blend of traditional Jewish motifs, Art Nouveau and Middle Eastern craftsmanship. The pen is about 4.5 inches long, not counting the hangtag.
The pen is in good vintage condition, it has some signs of wear, especially on the hangtag and a few spots of patina, all consistent with its age (see pictures). Technically the pen still writes, but currently the retraction spring is stuck so the tip of the pen stays retracted, which is a fairly simple fix for someone with better skills than me.
This quality-made, precious item is a symbol of Israeli heritage and spirituality, making it a special and cherished item for discerning collectors, especially those with ties to the Jewish faith and history. And shipping is always free on all my items.
