AMZ 2.5 Diesel 2-Stroke Model Airplane Engine Vintage!

 

One vintage TR Diesel from Germany!

A vintage & rare (1 of 50) Diesel from Dr. Walter Sturm, made in tandem with the IMO Champion 2.5 Diesel commissioned by Jim Warnock, a model engine of the highest quality, featuring a sandcast aluminium alloy crankcase, anodised cylinder with collector ring, steel liner with 360-degree porting (4-bypass ports alternating with 4-exhaust ports), cast iron piston (conical shaped top & lightened with 10 holes), con-rod machined from bar-stock aluminium, dual ball-raced counter-balanced steel crankshaft with front rotary valve induction, machined intake venturi with cross-spray bar & spring-loaded needle valve for positive adjustment + RC carb (can be fitted instead of the venturi & uses the NVA from said venturi).

The original IMO Champion was created by E.K. Junginger (IMO Company) & Walter Fiebig (FIMO) in West Germany in the early 1960’s for racing.  Jim Warnock’s quest (since the Free Flight World Championships held in Wiener Neustadt in Austria in 1963) led to a collaboration with Dr. Walter Sturm (A-M-Z Antik und Fesselflugmodell-Zentrum) to realise true replicas of the IMO Champion; Dr. Walter Sturm created the AMZ 2.5 Diesel sharing parts with the IMO Champion but with the distinctive anodising, exhaust collector & silencer.

The performance rating by Sturm for this engine is the same as for the IMO Champion 2.5.  In his test run of the long sought-after IMO Champion, Jim Warnock found it turned the same RPM on his Zimtach tacho as his well broken in modified Oliver Tiger Mk III using a pressurised tank.  The Champion was not run with pressure. It could possibly be assumed it’s at least as good as the Olly.

Condition wise, this engine is new & turns smoothly with new engine compression.  The patina & burnish reflects its age.  Please see photos.  Engine comes with box, instruction sheet & needle.  The Dr. Walter Sturm RC carb is included for free for the winning bidder.
