PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Bachmann's N scale EMD SD40-2 brings Norfolk Southern's Thoroughbred-scheme #6160 to your layout with a retooled body, Econami DCC sound, and Hyperdrive2 motor control. The SD40-2 was the most successful unit in EMD's Dash 2 lineup — over 4,000 built between 1972 and 1989 — and NS rostered them across freight service for decades. With dual-mode DC/DCC operation and 16-bit polyphonic sound, this is a layout-ready locomotive that runs on any system.

FAQ
Will it run on my DC layout?
Yes — the dual-mode decoder runs on standard analog DC or any DCC system. Sound functions are limited on DC, but motor and lights work normally.
What's Hyperdrive2?
Soundtraxx's advanced motor control system for refined low-speed running. Especially valuable for an SD40-2 that often pulls slow drag freights or switches industries.
Does the headlight follow direction automatically?
Yes. The decoder supports Rule 17 lighting (separate dim/bright control for prototype operation) or automatic direction-based switching, your choice.
What era does the Thoroughbred scheme fit?
Norfolk Southern adopted the black-with-white-Thoroughbred-logo scheme in 1982 when NS was formed, and it remained standard for decades. Good for any 1980s-and-later NS layout.

Squeaky’s Trains & Things LLC was founded in December of 2019. It was started by our family that has been in love with everything, trains large and small, driven by creativity since we were born. We grew up playing with model trains and watching, learning about and studying different aspects of magnificent locomotives on a daily basis and today we still do.
It also has helped us get through rough times while dealing with being diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Trains and creativity have always helped calm our daily lives while also becoming self-taught on making designs and artwork.
With this our family activity that grew into a really big hobby! We realized local train stores were barely available and we also wanted to start offering other model railroading fans our self-made creations for their enjoyment. We want to help the community around us by providing model railroad supplies and continue the legend of the greatest hobby on earth, model trains and railroading!
