Based on the serial number, this Ludwig 404 is presumed to be a mid-to-late 1970s model, a classic and highly regarded aluminum snare drum.

With nearly 50 years of history, its seamless aluminum shell produces a dry sustain and a mild, midrange-focused tone that creates a unique presence.

The 70s models have thinner hoops and a slightly milder tone than current models, making them a popular and easy-to-use generation.

This particular drum appears to have original main parts (hoops and snare wires), and while there are some scratches and dirt commensurate with its age, tuning and the inner mute/strainer function without problems.

Although the snare wires and head have been replaced with current parts, the sound quality is still excellent!

This vintage snare drum is still perfectly usable.
