Publisher: Chatto and Windus, 1881, first edition. Bound in brick red cloth with titles and decorations in gilt on the spine, and vignettes in gilt on the top board. Floral endpapers. Very good condition. spine a little darkened and the gilt vignette is a bit rubbed, gilt on top board still bright. foxing of the backs of the endpapers, first blank and index pages, a very occasional light spot elsewhere, mainly clean and bright. Very attractive engraved illustrations, both full-page and within the text, showing English towns as they were in the 1880s. 19.5cm, 7.75 inches, tall, xv, 319 pages.
